The Motion Picture Association of America on Monday announced that it has hired the Los Angeles-based entertainment industry litigator Karen Thorland as vice president and senior content protection counsel.

Thorland succeeds Lisa Stone, who is leaving in January to become a full-time Mom, the MPAA said in a press statement.

Thorland comes from the law firm of Loeb & Loeb, where she was a partner. While there, she represented major and independent film studios, producers and music companies, as well as online marketers and advertisers.

At the MPAA, she’ll report to David Mandil, the organization’s senior executive vice president, general counsel and chief content protection officer.

The MPAA says that Thorland’s job will be to manage both domestic and international content protection civil litigation efforts.

Thorland will remain in Los Angeles. She’s a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law.
