China’s official newspaper recently criticized Apple’s iPAD because users must pay for music and movies, according to a[ recent report in *The Christian Science Monitor*](http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-News/2010/1015/China-finds-disadvantages-in-Apple-iPad-users-must-pay-for-music-and-movies?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com).

“There are many disadvantages” to iPADs, according to an article in People’s Daily. “For example you cannot install pirate software on them, you cannot download \[free\] music, and you need to pay for movies you watch on them.”

The United States has been fighting China at the World Trade Organization for years, charging that the Chinese government isn’t living up to its obligations in going after pirates.

Apple introduced the iPAD in China mid-September.

This latest report illustrates significant differences between the Chinese and Western understanding of the concept of intellectual property.
