nJune 2, 2026 – A state program offering grants to internet service providers to extend fiber to unserved homes has more than $200,000 remaining in available funding, with applications closing June 30.

The program addresses a persistent last-mile challenge: the high cost of running fiber to homes set far back from main roads often makes service economically out of reach for rural customers.

BroadbandOhio established the [Line Extension Program](https://dam.assets.ohio.gov/image/upload/broadband.ohio.gov/Line%5FExtension%5FProgram%5FGuide%5FBook%5FFinal%5F6.21.24.pdf?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com) using funds from the federal [Capital Projects Fund](https://home.treasury.gov/policy-issues/coronavirus/assistance-for-state-local-and-tribal-governments/capital-projects-fund?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com), a $10 billion program created under the American Rescue Plan Act to address infrastructure gaps exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Treasury Department began announcing CPF awards in June 2022, distributing funds to all states, the District of Columbia, territories, freely associated states, and tribal governments.

The program launched with $2 million in total funding. Grants cover line extension costs beyond the first 200 feet, up to the lesser of $5,000 per address or the total cost the customer would otherwise incur, at a maximum rate of $9.50 per foot. All projects must be operational by Dec. 31, 2026.

Internet service providers can access the program guidebook and application materials on the [BroadbandOhio website](https://broadband.ohio.gov/grant-opportunities/line-extension?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com).
