WASHINGTON, June 13, 2025 — Starlink will end its promotion offering free user terminals to new customers on June 25.

Starlink made the announcement in an email on Thursday. The promotion, begun in [in April](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/starlink-waives-equipment-fee-in-select-areas-with-12-month-commitment/), eliminated the [$349 equipment charge](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Starlink-Standard-Kit-V4/5597651559?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&selectedOfferId=5BE61A06E70E3349A9357A0BA5F75EAB&conditionGroupCode=1&wl13=2799&gclsrc=aw.ds&adid=222222222775597651559%5F117755028669%5F12420145346&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-394283752452&wl5=9007532&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=5597651559&veh=sem%5FLIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad%5Fsource=4&gad%5Fcampaignid=12420145346&gclid=CjwKCAjw9anCBhAWEiwAqBJ-c4qviWbFaNQ%5Fke4ojzHf3CFETInee9N590JVH680di-9k7Asdu8SlBoC3LQQAvD%5FBwE&ref=broadbandbreakfast.com). The elimination of the charge was available mainly to customers who signed up for the Residential plan with a 12-month commitment.

The announcement came shortly after the National Telecommunications and Information Administration issued [updated guidance](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/ntia-rewrites-rules-for-bead-forcing-states-to-rebid-broadband-projects/) to the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program. The rewritten rule creates new bidding rounds, giving Starlink the chance to be reimbursed for the equipment.

Starlink's low-earth orbit satellites serve hard-to-reach areas, providing states a reason to use Starlink through BEAD-funded deployments.
