WASHINGTON, March 1, 2010 – Assistant Secretary Lawrence Strickling, Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Ohio Representatives Dennis Kucinich, Zack Space and Betty Sutton – all Democrats – are scheduled to announce federal spending aimed at bridging the technological divide and increasing economic opportunities in low-income communities in Cleveland, Akron, and Zanesville, Ohio.

A Monday press release from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration emphasized how the February 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was “a direct response to the economic crisis,” and has three immediate goals of creating new jobs, spurring economic activity and investment in long-term economic growth, and fostering accountability and transparency in government spending.

It cited the Congressional Budget Office as stating that the Recovery Act was responsible for saving or creating as many as 1.6 million jobs.
