TDS Wins 39 of 46 DSL Projects
WASHINGTON August 5, 2010- Wednesday’s announcement by the Department of Agriculture included 44 DSL projects, of which 39 were given to a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems (TDS).
WASHINGTON August 5, 2010- Wednesday’s announcement of new broadband grants by the Department of Agriculture included 46 DSL projects, of which 39 were given to a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems (TDS).
Overall TDS received $85,862,409 in funding from RUS and will provide $28,620,803 of their own funds. Their projects will span 18 states.
In a statement released Wednesday Andrew Peterson, director of external affairs and corporate communications for TDS Telecom said: “We are experienced at providing rural areas with broadband. In fact, over 93 percent of our customers nationwide have access to our high-speed Internet service today. Now we have the opportunity to bring reliable and affordable broadband out to some of our most difficult to reach customers.”
Once TDS signs the official contracts the firm will have up to 36 months to complete the construction of the networks. The firm also received funds from the first round to setup networks in Michigan and Alabama.
