The state is set to receive [more than $1.2 billion](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/chart-of-states-accepting-bead-grant-applications/) in funding from the Biden administration’s [$42.45 billion BEAD program](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/dems-levin-defend-bead-in-house-hearing/), which would help to connect all state residents to high speed broadband.

The state’s application window, originally opened between Aug. 26 and Oct. 24, will be opened again starting Nov. 13 until Dec. 19, according to [a Friday announcement](https://broadband.wv.gov/west-virginia-opens-bead-extension-extension-target-areas-posted/?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com) from the West Virginia broadband office.

The extended window will take effect in areas without viable projects following the state’s [initial application deadline](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/west-virginia-opens-bead-grant-application-window/), and areas that are at risk of remaining without a viable broadband expansion project.

The state broadband office has not yet released a list of the target areas.

During the extension, additional funding for broadband deployment will be available from the Appalachian Regional Commission, the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund and State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund. The state did not note how much additional funding would be made available.

Extension applications are available for residents online through the state’s [grant application portal](https://challenge.broadband.wv.gov/?ref=broadbandbreakfast.com).

Eight states have opened their application windows for BEAD grants, [according to data compiled by Broadband Breakfast](https://broadbandbreakfast.com/chart-of-states-accepting-bead-grant-applications/).
