NTIA Allocates $2.6B for Round Two, Receives $11B in Requests
WASHINGTON, April 8, 2010 – The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration announced it has received 867 applications requesting $11 billion in funding for proposed broadband projects throughout the United States.
WASHINGTON, April 8, 2010 – The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration announced it has received 867 applications requesting $11 billion in funding for proposed broadband projects throughout the United States.
The applications are for the second round of NTIA’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding aimed at expanding broadband access and adoption. NTIA allocated approximately $2.6 billion for the second round of its Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
NTIA said applications came in from a wide range of parties including state, local and tribal governments; nonprofits; industry; anchor institutions, such as libraries, universities, community colleges and hospitals; public safety organizations; and other entities in rural, suburban and urban areas.
NTIA’s goal is to make the first batch of round two grant awards this summer.
