WASHINGTON, June 10, 2010- Texas Republican John Culberson has submitted an amendment to the House Financial Services Appropriations which would block the FCC from regulating the internet. The amendment would prevent the FCC from spending any money on Chairmen Genachowski’s Third Way proposal. Culberson has stated that only Congress has the authority to reclassify broadband, a theme which was echoed in a speech given by Commissioner Baker at the Broadband Policy Summit. This method of blocking FCC action by limiting their use of funds is also being proposed by his Senate colleague and fellow Republican Kay Baily Hutchinson.
