Anna ‘Aesop’ Gomez Keeps Telling Her Favorite First Amendment Fable – Fox29

FCC Democrats led by Chair Jessica Rosenworcel pointed a license revocation bazooka at the head of a Fox TV station in Philly during the 2024 campaign. But Gomez likes to forget about that one.

Fox29: Democratic FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez is the Aesop of the agency. No one is better at telling a First Amendment fable than Gomez, who participated in an 18-month campaign of intimidation against Fox29 (WTXF), a News Corp/Murdoch-controlled TV station in Philadelphia while Democrats were running the FCC in 2024. But Gomez insisted again yesterday that she had nothing to do with the Fox29 fiasco.

“What you did not see in the last administration was the administration take action against any broadcaster for the content of their broadcasting or for their editorial decisions and newsmaking,” she said at a press conference after the agency’s final meeting of the year. In a hyper-technical legal sense, intimidation and action might not be precisely the same thing but they clearly convey the same message: If you step out of line, we can yank your TV license. How many TV stations awaiting FCC license renewal in 2024 refused to air stories claiming President Joe Biden mentally did not have all of his bait in the water? Hard to count stories that don’t run that might have angered the Biden appointees running the FCC in an election season. (More after paywall.)
