Permitting: FCC Chairman Brendan Carr wants state and local governments to move faster on broadband permits – and he’s proposing a 120‑day deadline to force the issue. Carr unveiled June 3 a plan to streamline approvals for high‑speed wireline infrastructure, arguing that excessive fees and years-long reviews are blocking broadband builds and violating Section 253 of the Communications Act. Providers, he said, are abandoning projects or scaling them back because of mounting costs and delays. “Households and businesses won’t get the modern services they need if deployment projects are tied up in excessive red tape,” Carr said, adding that broadband builders face “excessive fees and unnecessary delays.” (More after paywall)
