House Restores Funding to Broadband Loan Program
WASHINGTON June 17, 2011 – In a 221-198 vote, the House voted on Thursday to approve an amendment to the Agriculture appropriations act, would will reinstate funding for the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) to continue the Broadband Loan Program.
WASHINGTON June 17, 2011 – In a 221-198 vote, the House voted on Thursday to approve an amendment to the Agriculture appropriations act, would will reinstate funding for the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) to continue the Broadband Loan Program.
The amendment will provide $6 million to the RUS to provide loans.
“With current regulatory uncertainty, private funding sources have become scarce, so having the support through the RUS Broadband Loan Program is imperative for the continued expansion of broadband throughout rural America,” stated NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield.
