Fiber: West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R) announced a $100 million public‑private investment to expand high‑speed fiber broadband across rural areas, adding service for more than 5,000 unserved locations and improving connectivity for 10,000 homes and businesses. Joined by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), FCC Commissioner Olivia Trusty and Armstrong President Jeff Ross in Hamlin, Morrisey said on Sept. 10 reliable broadband is “essential to creating jobs” and supporting healthcare and education. Armstrong is deploying more than 500 miles of fiber infrastructure through more than $100 million in public and private investment. “I want to applaud what Armstrong is doing. That’s a good example of how we can create these public-private partnerships, and I know that they’re working really hard to get the fiber in the ground, the homes connected, [and] the businesses connected,” Morrisey said. “And that’s going to make sure that we have communities that have access to the opportunities they’ve never had before.” Armstrong’s work is supported by the federal BEAD program, West Virginia’s Line Extension Advancement and Development (LEAD) Program, and the FCC’s Enhanced Alternative Connect America Cost Model Program, with projects already underway across rural West Virginia.
