As Deadlines Approach, Government Focuses On Broadband Plan
WASHINGTON, December 28, 2009 – A Federal Communications Commission spokesman told Broadband Census News Monday that the agency is working hard to complete a national broadband plan to expand use of the technology in the next two months.
WASHINGTON, December 28, 2009 – A Federal Communications Commission spokesman told Broadband Census News Monday that the agency is working hard to complete a national broadband plan to expand use of the technology in the next two months.
“The FCC is working hard to meet the Feb. 17 deadline set by Congress in the Recovery Act,” said the spokesman. Federal Communications Commission broadband advisor Blair Levin reportedly also said this week the FCC expects to meet the deadline, which was set forth under legislation President Obama signed into law on Feb. 17, 2009.
“The Recovery Act states that the National Broadband Plan shall seek to ensure all people of the United States have access to broadband capability and shall establish benchmarks for meeting that goal,” according to the FCC’s Web site Broadband.gov.
The planned deadlines are rapidly approaching. In January 2010 the FCC has said it will provide an update on opportunities to drive the national broadband agenda. In February, the FCC plans to consider plan recommendations before releasing its formal report to Congress on February 17, 2010.
