BroadbandBreakfast.com Launches Free Monthly Intellectual Property Breakfast Club for 2010-2011

WASHINGTON, September 8, 2010 – The internet and intellectual property news service BroadbandBreakfast.com is offering free tickets to the first event in its Fall Intellectual Property Breakfast Club series, “Will the Obama Administration’s IP Czar Crush Internet Piracy?”

This event will address how, for the first time, a presidential administration has prioritized enforcement of intellectual property rights by appointing a high-level administration official charged with coordinating policy and enforcement. How has Victoria Espinel, the U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, done in her first year on the job? Will the Obama Administration be able to put a dent in internet piracy?

Attendees are encouraged to join in on a wide-ranging discussion on international and domestic controversies surrounding intellectual property.

The event will be held this Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at Clyde’s of Gallery Place, 707 7th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. American and Continental breakfasts are included. The program begins shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Speakers at the September 14th event include Stevan Mitchell, vice president of intellectual property policy, the Entertainment Software Alliance; Casey Rae-Hunter, communications director and policy strategist, the Future of Music Coalition; Gigi Sohn, president and co-Founder of Public Knowledge; and Steve Tepp, senior director, internet counterfeiting and piracy, Global Intellectual Property Center, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be hosted and moderated by Drew Clark, Chairman and Publisher, BroadbandBreakfast.com. Drew is an experienced technology policy journalist and broadband expert who has written widely on the politics of telecom, media and technology for a variety of publications, including Ars Technica, GigaOm, National Journal, Slate, and Washington Post. Drew launched BroadbandBreakfast.com’s sister company, BroadbandCensus.com, in January 2008 as a means of providing objective information about broadband speeds, prices, availability, reliability and competition.

The Intellectual Property Breakfast Club series meets on the second Tuesday of each month. It will probe topics including “China and Intellectual Property (October 12th), “Finding Solutions to Problems of Copyright Infringement” (November 9th), and “Approaches by Internet Service Providers Around the World to Copyright Infringement” (December 14, 2010).
