WASHINGTON, December 31, 2009 – BroadbandBreakfast.com, the news service devoted to broadband stimulus, wireless broadband, the national broadband plan, and more, is hosting a special National Town Hall Webcast on the subject of “Net Neutrality, Copyright Protection and the National Broadband Plan.”

This special event will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, less than a week after comments pertaining to copyright protection and the broadband plan are filed at the FCC, and less than a month before the final National Broadband Plan is due from the Federal Communications Commission.

This national broadband plan under consideration by the Federal Communications Commission promises wide-ranging changes in this country’s approach to high-speed communication. Among the most controversial topics is whether copyright issues should be included as part of the plan — and whether the prospect for inclusion is likely to influence private sector negotiations between content, telecommunications and technology companies.

Confirmed Speakers for the “Net Neutrality, Copyright Protection and National Broadband Plan Town Hall Webcast” Include:

We will kick off the event with a breakfast at Clyde’s at 8 a.m. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and will feature a live webcast. It will include two panels, one more technical in nature, and the other more policy-oriented. Among the topics that will be considered in this two-hour National Town Hall Webcast are:

  • The debate between broadband providers and Internet companies over Net Neutrality, which has recently heated up as Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski has promised new rules regulating the Internet
  • Copyright industries’ concerns on Internet piracy and its drain on their revenue
  • Whether the National Broadband Plan that Genachowski and the FCC is working on is an opportunity to address the concerns of copyright holders
  • What the technology and telecommunications industries think of these efforts
