FCC Announces Wireless World Travel Week
WASHINGTON, June 22, 2010 – It is Wireless World Travel Week, and for the 60 million Americans who make trips each year, the FCC and wireless companies are giving tips on how to save money on international wireless use.
WASHINGTON, June 22, 2010 – It is Wireless World Travel Week, and for the 60 million Americans who make trips each year, the FCC and wireless companies are giving tips on how to save money on international wireless use.
Checking with the provider about options and costs, alternatives to standard plans such as the use local SIM cards, pay-as-you-go phones, world phones and Internet VoIP calling through programs like Skype are some of the things the FCC will release on its web site this week.
Each day has a different theme; Tuesday is how to get ready for an international trip, Wednesday is calling options from overseas, Thursday is VoIP calling, and Friday is Returning Home.
“A little preparation and education can save consumers a bundle,” said Mindel De La Torre, chief of the FCC’s International Bureau.
CEO of the CTIA Steve Largent said, “CTIA and the wireless industry are pleased to join the FCC in educating Americans on what to do before they leave for an international trip so that they have the best calling, texting and mobile Internet experience possible.”
