Skype to Charge for Mobile VoIP
WASHINGTON June 2, 2010 – Starting in 2011, Skype will begin charging users to make mobile Skype-to-Skype calls.
WASHINGTON June 2, 2010 – Communications industry pundits have wondered how the market would adapt to the rapid growth of mobile voice-over-internet protocol services. Today, they have an inkling. AT&T announced that it will begin to meter its mobile broadband service, and Skype also has announced a major change to its service. In its newest version of Skype for the iPhone, mobile Skype to Skype calls will no longer be free. Starting in 2011, users will have to pay a “small fee.” Calls made over Wi-Fi will remain free but users will have to pay for calls made over faster, 3G networks.
