WASHINGTON, July 30, 2010 – In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission Rep John Dingell (D- MI) said that the chairman should abandon his effort to reclassify broadband. In a response chairman Genachowski said that while he looks forward to working with Congress to a update the communications act key feels that these actions need to occur quickly and cannot wait for Congress to complete its deliberation.
He also clarified that the notice seeks comment as to reclassifying broadband services as telecommunications services which are currently regulated under Title II of the Communications Act.
In a response to Genachowski’s letter Representative Dingell still believed that the commission should abandon its reclassification efforts due to the fact that this issue will be hurried and will not stand up to judicial review.
