ABC: Jimmy Kimmel Live! is dead. ABC’s late night comic Jimmy Kimmel got run over yesterday, and the vehicle was driven by irate FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, a Republican who blasted Kimmel for suggesting the Utah man who shot and killed conservative hero Charlie Kirk was a Trump supporter. ABC, the broadcast TV network owned by Disney, pulled Kimmel’s eponymous show moments after Nexstar Media Group risked costly litigation by summarily dropping Kimmel on its 32 ABC stations that reach 126 million U.S. TV households.
“I want to thank Nexstar for doing the right thing. Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. I hope that other broadcasters follow Nexstar’s lead,” Carr said on his X feed. (More after paywall.)
