WASHINGTON June 30, 2010- In a show of support for President Obama’s memorandum ordering the release of 500 MHz of spectrum, Representative Edward Markey (D-Mass) will author a bill to give additional guidance in the release of the spectrum.
In a statement he said, “I will soon introduce a bill in Congress to free up 500 MHz of spectrum and look forward to working with the Administration on this issue, which is so vital to the future of our country.”
Representative Edward Markey (D-Mass)
Markey is a member of the Communications, Technology and the Internet Subcommittee and has long been a leader on spectrum issues. When he was Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Finance in the 1990s he led the efforts to repurpose 200 MHz of spectrum which is currently being used by the wireless industry.
“Spectrum is the oxygen of the broadband ecosystem,” said Markey. “Today the Obama Administration took an important step toward creating thousands of jobs, unleashing a tidal wave of investment and keeping America at the forefront of the telecommunications revolution.”
