Description of Broadband Breakfast

Broadband Breakfast is the premier media company dedicated to advocating for widespread high-capacity internet access through insightful and timely reporting. Known for its comprehensive coverage of broadband policy, technology, and infrastructure development, the company actively supports the growth of a 21st-century information economy. We produce between 7-15 news stories a day, including Expert Opinions, AP content, and our weekly online event, Broadband Breakfast Live Online. We also host in-person events, including an annual BEAD Implementation Summit, and an annual Digital Infrastructure Investment conference. These highlight the importance of robust internet infrastructure. Broadband Breakfast is committed to fostering understanding and collaboration among key industry stakeholders.

Academic and Journalism Internship

Seeking Interns for Reporter, Business Development, and Software Engineering. Interns for Broadband Breakfast work on Capitol Hill and downtown Washington, D.C., and interact daily with the CEO and Publisher, Managing Editor, and Marketing Director on reporting, writing, business development and software engineering.

Academic and internship credit available; event registration costs will be provided. Academic and Journalism Reporter Interns are expected to write between eight and 10 briefs (150-300 words), plus several short articles of between 300-500 words, per week. Interns work toward feature pieces ranging from 800-1,200 words.

Requirements for Reporters:

  • At least two years of undergraduate experience (graduate students and law students may also apply)
  • Live or have the ability to work in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area
  • Knowledge of technology and telecommunications policy issues a plus but not required

Requirements for Software Engineers:

  • For software engineering candidates, familiarity with modern software engineering development environments, including Content Management Systems and Customer Relationship Management software

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a video conference four times a week at 8:30 a.m. ET.
  • Attend and report on events and newsworthy items in Washington as assigned by an editor.
  • Write and file news stories for Breakfast Media publications, including Broadband Breakfast, and respond to questions from editors. After stories are posted on Ghost, repost stories on social media.
  • Attend and support monthly Broadband Breakfast Club events and weekly Broadband Breakfast Live Online events.
