Minneapolis to Offer Free Wi-Fi
WASHINGTON June 30, 2010- Minneapolis will soon offer free Wi-Fi to its residents. The city has announced the deployment of 117 hotspots around the city for a project they are calling “Wireless Minneapolis”.
WASHINGTON June 30, 2010- Minneapolis will soon offer free Wi-Fi to its residents. The city has announced the deployment of 117 hotspots around the city for a project they are calling “Wireless Minneapolis”.
City Council Member Gary Schiff said “A wireless city benefits everyone in the community whether you’re a resident, business owner or visitor,” “By investing in the tools, training and technology necessary to increase Internet access for all, we’ve found new ways to connect to our community and for our community to connect to the world.”
Users will be given one hour of access before they are asked to verify their identity. Users will not be charged for access but they will have to verify their identity with a credit card.
Each tower has a range of 600 feet.
Additionally community centers and libraries will be given special accounts to allow them to provide access to the public from their computer labs.
