NFL: The National Association of Broadcasters’ top official warned the NFL against shifting more games to streaming platforms, saying the league risks a political backlash. “We need to ensure policymakers are educated about the harm when premier sporting events migrate from broadcast to streaming,” NAB CEO Curtis LeGeyt told Barrett Media in an interview published Oct. 5. “I think the NFL is playing with fire by pushing more and more games off to Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube.” He said lawmakers are increasingly questioning the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, an antitrust exemption that allows NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to cut media deals for all 32 teams. “We are seeing study after study that shows the mounting consumer frustration with needing to buy a new subscription service just to follow your favorite team,” LeGeyt said. (More after paywall)
