Survey Finds that Most Americans are Satisfied with Current Broadband Service

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2010 – A consumer research study from the Leichtman Research Group, Inc. (LRG), revealed that most Americans are not concerned with broadband speed and availability. They found that 71% of broadband subscribers are very satisfied with their Internet at home, while only 3% of subscribers were not satisfied.

Even though 77% of broadband subscribers do not know their actual Internet speeds, 66% are happy with their current download speeds. 26% said they would be interested in faster Internet options, but 44% were not interested in faster speeds.

When the survey was conducted in 2004, only 20% of participants reported having broadband service in their homes. In this year’s study, that percentage increased to 70%. According to Bruce Leichtman, president and principal analyst for LRG “In just the past six years about half all US households have begun subscribing to a broadband Internet service During this period of rapid growth, consumers have remained very satisfied with their broadband service at home.” Overall, 1.4% of participants were interested in getting broadband service, with less than 1% citing cost as a reason for not subscribing.

LRG conducted the telephone survey of 1600 randomly selected households in the United States. This survey is part of a bigger LRG study, Broadband Access & Services in the Home 2010, and is in its eighth year of research.
