ATLANTA, Ga., January 14, 2010 – Former Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz on Monday was elected vice chairman of the Alliance for Digital Equality.

“Due to his extensive experience on broadband related issues facing the unserved and underserved, Manny will be a tremendous asset in advocating on a variety of policy and economic issues for America’s low income citizens,” Alliance Chairman Julius Hollis said.

Diaz, a native of Havana, Cuba, was elected mayor of Miami in 2001 and has been credited with revitalizing the city. In 2008, U.S. News and World Report named Diaz one of America’s best leaders.

The alliance was founded in 2007 to encourage access to technology in underserved communities.
